PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow the let-out operation of a cord worn at the free end exclusively when the rotary cutter is in low-speed operation mode or non-acting (stop) mode and to prevent the disintegration of individual parts in the case of disassembling a rotary cutter. SOLUTION: The rotary cutter for a bush cutter is composed of a cord for cutting grasses, etc., a reel to hold the cord and let out the cord by intermittent rotation, a cover covering the case holding the reel and a pressing member protruded downward from the case and axially movable by pressing to effect the intermittent rotation of the reel. A means for forcing the pressing member in the direction protruding from the case is placed between the reel and the pressing member. The pressing member is engaged with the case in a manner slidable in axial direction relative to the case while preventing the mutual rotational motion. When the pressing member is pushed against the forcing means, a set of protrusions attached to the pressing member are engaged with or released from a protrusion attached to the reel to effect the intermittent rotation of the reel.
