PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the production of an optical fiber preform having a nonuniform glass density distribution based on a difference in characteristics of burners in production of the optical fiber preform by an outside vapor-phase deposition method. SOLUTION: The temperature peaks ( deg.C) in parts on the side of the moving direction of flames of adjacent two burners are respectively T1 and T1' and the temperature peaks ( deg.C) of parts on the side opposite the moving direction are respectively T2 and T2', respective conditions of T1<T2, T1'<T2', T1<T1' and T2-T1'<=30 are satisfied in a method for producing an optical fiber preform by an outside vapor-phase deposition method using a plurality of burners.
