PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely prevent entanglement of stump at the axle part, bearing part, etc., of soil covering roller even if a stump projecting from the surface of a field M is brought close to a slantingly rotating roller having a small diameter when vegetable seedlings are planted in a field having a used trace of a paddy field. SOLUTION: In a seedling transplanter in which a pair of right and left vertically rocking cups for transplantation are delivered from a seedling tray on a traveling machine and seedlings are planted in a field, a pair of right and left soil covering rollers 20a and 20b for sweeping soil on the surface of the field to a seedling transplanting part are attached to a machine so that the rollers are installed behind the seedling transplanting part. A first protecting plate 98a and a second protecting plate 98b are arranged at a proper height from the surface of the field ahead the soil covering rollers 20a and 20b and the free end of a stump 100 can be pushed and curved in the traverse direction of the traveling machine.
