PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent degradation of catalyst due to combustion of unburned fuel gas generated by miss fire caused by lowering of fuel pressure within catalyst and to secure minimum traveling in a range without adversely affecting catalyst. SOLUTION: Fuel pressure kpa and a set value Pa0 are compared (S2). At the time of kpa<Pa0, a fuel pressure lowering ratioΔkpa per unit time is calculated (S4). According to an increase in the fuel pressure lowering ratioΔkpa, the fuel cut cylinder number is increased (S5 to S11). Because the fuel cut cylinder number is changed according to the fuel pressure lowering ratioΔkpa without suddenly cutting whole cylinder fuel, even if lowering of fuel pressure is detected, minimum traveling in a range without adversely affecting catalyst is secured.
