PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an external heat-insulating structure of a building, having sufficient strength, without driving a clamping tool or without clamping into a boardlike heat insulating material. SOLUTION: There is provided an external heat insulating structure for a building, which is constructed by attaching face bars 15, 16 to an indoor side and an outdoor side of frame members 10, 11, and then arranging a boardlike heat insulating material 12 between the frames and the outdoor side face bar 15. Intermediate members 13, 14 are provided which each are in contact with the outdoor side edge surface of the frame member and have a thickness at least the same as that of the boardlike heat insulating material and strength almost equal to that of the frame member. The intermediate members 13, 14 each allow its end to abut on the frame member, and the cross section of the end is concaved so as to form a depression 19, 20 between the frame member and the intermediate member per se. Thus, an end of the boardlike heat insulating material is engaged with the depression formed at the portion at which the intermediate member abuts on the frame member, and the outdoor side face bar is mounted on the frame members via the intermediate members by means of fastening means 17.
