SOLUTION: A torque converter directly connecting crutch control device 10 is provided with a throttle opening sensor 12 to detect the throttle opening (a), a car speed sensor 14 to detect the car speed (b), a direct crutch control means 16 to put out an engaging signal c or a releasing signal d depending on the throttle opening a and the car speed (b) a lock up solenoid 18 to engage or release a direct crutch depending on the engaging signal c or the releasing signal d; a speed reduction slip deciding means 20 to decide whether it is a speed reduction slip area (e) or not depending on the throttle opening a and the car speed (b), and a speed reduction slip control value setting means 22 to set a control value f according to the car speed b when it is decided to be the speed reduction area (e). The direct clutch control means 16 has a slip control function to put out the engaging signal c and the releasing signal d alternately depending on the control value f.
