PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a valve timing device for an engine and its seal, wherein the seal is easily assembled, operation is easily automated, and malfunction of failure wherein to assemble means providing the seal with pressurizing force is eliminated. SOLUTION: Each vane 1b of a rotor-like vane member 1 is housed in each hydraulic chamber 3 partitioned by shoes 10 in a housing 4, in a relatively rotatable manner. Seal grooves 12, 13 are formed on front surfaces of the shoe 10 and the vane member 1 which are in sliding contact with each other, while a seal 30 is inserted therein. The seal 30 is compose of a synthetic resin seal member 31, and a metal spring 32 which is integrally fixed to the seal member 31 for providing the seal member 31 with desired press-contact force. |
