PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydrogen occlusion material that has high-activity graphite layers and can occlude a large amount of hydrogen, its production and use. SOLUTION: A coil form of carbon fiber including amorphous parts is graphitized and the hydrogen occlusion material resultant from the graphitization is subjected to the activation treatment to give a hydrogen occlusion material that can occlude a large amount of hydrogen. The graphitization of coil carbon fiber is attained by heating at 1,500-3,500 deg.C for 0.01-1,000 hours whereby the whole of the amorphous parts are graphitized. The graphitized carbon fiber is activated by oxidative treatment or treatment with hydrogen. The oxidative treatment is carried out at 2,000-3,100 deg.C for 0.01-500 hours. |
