IMPROVED METHOD FOR PRODUCING PHENOL AND ACETONE FROM CUMOL

PURPOSE: Cumol is oxidized into technical cumol hydroperoxide (CHP) and the resulting CHP is catalyzed to prepare phenol and acetone. CONSTITUTION: A method for producing phenol and acetone is improved by oxidizing cumol into technical cumol hydroperoxide (CHP) through catalytic cleavage of the CHP. During caltalytic cleavage of the technical CHP, a molar ratio of phenol:acetone:cumol should be maintained to 1:1:(0.38-0.61). According to the method, the oxidation products are concentrated up to a cumul content ranging from 21 to 30 wt.% in the technical cumul hydroperoxide, the mixture being used for the catalytic cleavage.
