PURPOSE: A magneto-optical recording medium is provided to have stable recording characteristics despite magnetic field strength changes by oxidizing the surface of a signal recording layer. CONSTITUTION: A disc substrate has a first dielectric layer(2), a signal recording layer(3) formed with a thin film, an oxidized layer(4) formed by oxidizing the surface of the signal recording layer(3), a second dielectric layer(5), a light reflecting layer(6), and a protection layer(7), and performs the magneto-optical recording on the signal recording layer(3) according to a magnetic field modulation mode. The signal recording layer(3) is constituted with TbFeCo, and the content of Tb in the recording layer(3) is about 25.5 atom %.
