PURPOSE:To cope with an unexpected trouble by collecting operation state information from a plurality of devices to be diagnosed, extracting a universal symptom indicating common characteristics, and then determining a trouble which may occur. CONSTITUTION:Each communication control device 3 of a plurality of copying machines 1... receives information on a paper transport operation and an image forming operation from each copying machine main body 2 and then accumulates it. The device 3 transmits an entire information which is accumulated along with an identification code which indicates occurrence of a trouble to a host computer 5 through a communication line 4. The computer 5 converts each information to a data file in for example ASCII format and then transmits it to a shell 8 of an expert system server 6. The shell 8 converts the data file to a hash table. A knowledge base system 7 performs diagnosis by taking out needed information from the hash table and then extracts universal symptoms which indicate common characteristics regarding the copying machine 1..., thus enabling a trouble which may happen in future to be predicted. |
