PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the subject efficient, safe and excellent cleaning method. SOLUTION: This method for cleaning stock oil filters in a petroleum refinery having a plural rows of stock oil filter units, a reaction column and a distillation column comprises the following practices: (1) the differential pressure (unit differential pressure) between the inlet and outlet of each of the stock oil filter units is measured, (2) the differential pressure thus measured is compared with the initial differential pressure for each of the units in beginning their operation, (3) when the ratio of the unit differential pressure to the initial differential pressure (tending differential pressure ratio) exceeds a set value of 3-15, a reverse cleaning of the corresponding unit(s) is started using a product oil afforded via the distillation column, and (4) when the above-mentioned tending differential pressure comes to 1.0-1.3, the reverse cleaning is ended, and the resulting filter units after finishing the reverse cleaning are returned to the filtration line for stock oil.
