FILTER AND DEVICE FOR REMOVING IODINE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To securely collect the radioactive iodine produced in nuclear power plants and facilities for reprocessing spent nuclear fuels by using an iodine removal filter comprising a macromolecular material that, on a main chain, has polymer side chains containing units derived from N-alkyl-N-vinylalkylamide and the like. SOLUTION: An iodine removal filter comprising a macromolecular material is used in order to adsorb and remove iodine. Side chains in the form of polymer chains containing units derived from N-alkyl-N-vinylalkylamide at least are located on a macromolecular main chain of the macromolecular material. A radiation-induced graft polymerization method is adopted as a means for introducing the side chains in the form of such polymer chains. Moreover, macromolecular material fiber and woven or unwoven fabric as its aggregate can be utilized as a material used as a base for introducing the side chains of the polymer chains. A base made of woven and unwoven fabric, which is lightweight and easy to work into a filter, can remove not only a noxious gas ingredient but also particulates.
