PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a substrate for a display with high contrast, low resistance, and having an electrode free from defect caused by the electrode when forming a dielectric layer on the electrode. SOLUTION: This substrate for a display has an electrode formed on the substrate. The electrod comprises at least two layers, and its lowest layer has a stimulus value Y of 4 to 15 in a XYZ color system, and the average height (hc) of the central part of the cross section of the electrode in the width direction and the maximum height (he) of the sectional end satisfy the relation expressed by an inequality, 1<=he/hc<=2.
