PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a test in which an automatic transmission state is close to a state in actual use. SOLUTION: An input and an output motors M1 and M2 are set to the input and output shafts of a transmission (A/T) and controlled by control parts 111 and 112 to automatically gear-shift the A/T, whereby a gear shifting performance of the A/T is tested in a line tester. A speed-judging and monitoring part 12 is set in the line tester which sets an upper limit value of a speed for each of driving steps (1st, 2nd, 3rd and the like) of the A/T and processes as an abnormality when a speed of the M1 or M2 exceeds the set upper limit value. Both the M1 and the M2 are controlled through torque control to test the gear shifting performance of the A/T. The speed increases to exceed an allowable range if a load decreases through the torque control to both of the M1 and M2, whereby the A/T is feared to be broken. However, the set speed- judging and monitoring part 12 enables both the M1 and the M2 to be torque controlled. Accordingly, the automatic transmission can be tested in a state close to when in actual use. A function of the automatic transmission can be evaluated highly.
