PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To check the situation that hot water flows back from a container for steam generation into a storage container, even when tank is extracted from the storage container, when this humidifier adopts a tank structure capable of pouring water from the top and container structure for stream generation. SOLUTION: This humidifier 500, which has a heater 16 for heating water, is equipped with a tank 51 capable of pouring water from the top, a water storage container 13 for storing this tank 51, a pipe conduit 17 connected to this water storage container 13, an evaporation container 15 set with the same water level as that in the tank 51, receiving water from the water storage container through this pipe conduit 17, and a back flow preventive mechanism 70 for restricting the stream of water in the pipe conduit 17, according to the mounting and extraction of the tank 51, and this back flow preventing mechanism 70 is so arranged as to shut off the stream of the water 5 from the evaporation container 15 into the water storage tank 51, when at least the tank 51 is extracted from the water storage container.
