The invention concerns a seat with a seating surface tilting about a horizontal axis (24) designed in particular to equip halls for accommodating spectators such as conference halls and/or entertainment halls, comprising at least an underframe with a substantially longitudinal axis (14) and whereto is optionally fixed a back portion (16), and with respect to which a horizontal axis (24) is determined, the seating surface (20) comprising a first part (32) projecting forward relative to the horizontal axis (24), and a second part (30) projecting towards the underframe (12). The invention is characterised in that the underframe (12) contains a gas actuator (40) whereof one end (48) is fixed to the underframe (12) and the other end (50) is fixed to the second part (30) of the seating surface (20).
