SOLUTION: A control part 1003 automatically gives a medium number according to a medium numbering part stored in a RAM 1005 and writes the medium number to a recording medium by accessing an FD by an FDD control part 1007 through an I/O control part 1006. At this time, the medium number (that is automatically given by the medium numbering part) recorded on the floppy disk(FD) and directory information are written to a medium number part and a directory information part respectively. Through the processing of this rewrite surface process part 1008, they are written to the medium number part and directory information part on the FD each time the recording contents of the FD are updated.
