PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heating cooking appliance in which the burning of a cooking pan or rice is little and a suitable rice cooking time can be ensured upon cooking rice by the cooking pan. SOLUTION: A decision control means 10 generates a stop signal when temperature detected by a temperature sensor 6 reaches temperature at which rice is cooked up. A temperature setting means 22 sets, when a balanced state is detected by a balanced state detecting means 14 within a prescribed period after the first increase of the quantity of heating by a heating control means 15, first cooking up temperature based on the detected temperature upon detection of the balanced state. On the other hand, when the balanced state is not detected, the temperature detected by the temperature sensor 6 immediately after the increase is compared with prescribed temperature. When the detected temperature is the prescribed temperature or higher, second cooking up temperature is set based on the detected temperature immediately after the first increase of the quantity of heating. When the detected temperature is lower than the prescribed temperature, third cooking up temperature higher than the second cooking up temperature is set based on the detected temperature immediately after the first increase.
