PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To quickly execute code conversion from JIS codes into shifted JIS codes by using a code conversion table. SOLUTION: A converter 22 refers to three code conversion tables 31 to 33 corresponding to the code systems of JIS and shifted JIS codes and stored in a storage device 3. The table 31 is a conversion table corresponding to an upper one byte of one JIS code character, the table 32 is a conversion table corresponding to a lower one byte when the upper one byte of one JIS code character is even and the table 33 is a conversion table corresponding to a lower one byte when the upper one byte of the one JIS code character is odd. Each of these tables 31 to 33 is directly accessed by converting each of upper and lower bytes of one JIS code character into an entry address. |
