PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve display quality of an image by enhancing a drive resolution of a stepping motor driving a carriage mounted with a read means, so as to reduce vibration of the carriage, thereby eliminating uneven density at image forming resulting from uneven reading of an image read means. SOLUTION: A drive control circuit 23 receives a drive pulse 22 that has a drive frequency twice that of a signal pulse 18 outputted from a CPU 20 and is formed by detecting the leading and the trailing times of the signal pulse 18 by a double clock circuit 21 so as to apply drive control to a stepping motor 16 by twice the drive resolution. Thus, a scanning movement amount per pulse for 1st and 2nd carriages is reduced, and vibration occurred at scanning movement is reduced.
