摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic image pickup device that can quickly trace the change in the lightness of an object by decreasing the time delay from the start of photometry until actual exposure control. SOLUTION: A CCD 5 reads signal charges stored corresponding to an object image formed by an image pickup optical system 1, the signal is displayed on an LCD 10 via an image pickup circuit 6, an A/D converter 7, a buffer memory 8 and a D/A converter 9 and stored in a recording memory 12 via a compression/expansion circuit 11 in an electronic still camera. The signal charges stored for a 1st frame period by the CCD 5 is read sequentially for a 2nd frame period, an accumulated value for a pixel signal read in parallel with the reading of the CCD 5 in an AE processing section 13 is obtained to calculate an AE evaluation value, an aperture 4 is driven via a CPU 15, a motor driver 18 and an aperture motor 21 on the basis of the AE evaluation value to control an exposure of the CCD 5 for a succeeding 3rd frame period.
