PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to retrieve objective document/image/sound data and check the location of the data with a portable terminal within a certain range of libraries, exhibition halls or the like and to distribute the outline/ feature of the data from the data side to a retriever. SOLUTION: In a radio LAN system, a server 10 is connected to a plurality of access points 13, 14, 15 and a radio LAN portable terminal 11 is connected to the access point 13. Since the movable radio LAN portable terminal 11 is in a state always connected to the server 10, the terminal 11 can extract desired information from the server 10. When the terminal 11 moves and enters into a new access area, an access point in the new access area detects the terminal 11 and transmits the outline of information of the access area to the terminal 11.
