PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the time required for one shot when photographing an object. SOLUTION: A shutter 2 is activated through release operation of an operation section 23, a CCD solid-state image pickup element 3 picks up image of an object, and a digital signal processing section 6 or the like are used to process image data. After the image pickup processing of the data, a CPU 21 activates a liquid crystal display device LCD 22 to display a picked-up image on a screen of the LCD 22. After continuing the display state for a preset number of seconds such as 1 to 2 seconds, the CPU 21 deactivates the screen display of the LCD 22. Then the CPU 21 writes the image data outputted from the digital signal processing section 6 to a PC card 10 via an image compression/ expansion section 7, an FIFO 8 and a card interface 9 or the like. The CPU 21 has a function of time limit controlling means and the length of the screen display period of the image pickup result by the LCD 22 can be set as desired, trough the operation of an operation section 23.
