PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a magnetic recording medium possible to have excellent transparency and slipperiness and to obtain high magnetic output by specifying the shearing rate acting on an upper layer transparent magnetic recording layer coating liquid adjacent onto a lower layer transparent magnetic recording layer coating liquid on a base side to a specified value or a bove and applying two layers of transparent magnetic recording layers in double layers by a wet-on-wet system on one surface on a base. SOLUTION: At the time of the wet-on-wet double layer coating, by increasing the shearing rate of the upper layer transparent magnetic recording layer coating liquid, the thin magnetic recording layers having excellent magnetic characteristics can be obtained. The formation may be achieved by applying the upper layer transparent magnetic recording layer coating liquid faster and thinner than the lower layer transparent magnetic recording layer coating liquid. More specifically, by setting the shearing rate preferably at >=2×104 sec-1, not only the transparent and smaller film thickness can be obtained but the orientability after drying can be improved and the magnetic characteristics can be enhanced as mechanical orientation occurs strongly at the coating application layers.
