PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase processing speed in the processing correcting uneven density caused by dispersion in an optical system of an image processing unit. SOLUTION: An EEPROM 10 stores a correction coefficient K[i] found, resulting from the use of an adjustment medium with uniform density in advance. The correction coefficient K[i] is a coefficient that is used to set a density of each position of an adjustment medium to a mean value (t), and the EEPROM 10 stores the correction coefficient K[i] in cross reference with each position. A ROM 11 stores a density value Y[i] of an output image after correction that is calculated in advance, with respect to an address space represented by a set of the correction coefficient K[i] and a density X[i] for each position (i) of an input image. When actually correcting the image of a correction object medium, the correction coefficient K[i] is obtained from the EEPROM 10, and the density Y[i] of a corresponding output image is extracted from the ROM 11 on the basis of the correction coefficient K[i].
