PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a base for a discharge tube capable of being mounted directly in a lighting system using an existing halogen lamp as its light source, of a headlight for a vehicle, and which is superior in reliability, safety, and handling facility. SOLUTION: This base for a discharge tube comprises a flange part 22, a connector part 26, and a tubular part 28. The flange part 22 has a shape conforming to the prescribed fitting of a base mounting part in a lighting system of a headlight for a vehicle, and has an insertion hole 18 for inserting therein a discharge tube 15 with a positive-electrode lead wire 16 and an ultraviolet-blocking glass tube 17, and a small hole 21 for inserting/fixing therein a ceramic thin tube 20 having a negative- electrode lead wire 19 put therethrough. The connector part 26 is provided with connection electrodes 10 to 40 mm spaced apart from each other and connecting the positive/ negative electrode leads 16, 19 of the discharge tube 15 to an external power supplying cable. The tabular part 28 integrally links the flange part 22 to the connector part 26. This base for a discharge tube is further equipped with a tubular insulation plug 30 fitted/inserted in the insertion hole 18 in the flange part 22 and tubular part 28 to a depth H of 10 to 30 mm and having a crown-shaped flange part 31 disposed on one end thereof for embracing a root portion N of the ultraviolet-blocking glass tube 17. |
