PYRIMIDINE DERIVATIVES AND PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION THEREOF

Novel pyrimidine derivatives represented by general formula (I): [wherein R<1> is (I') (wherein R<3> is a leaving group), hydroxycarbamoyl, or amino; and R<2> is a group convertible into formyl]; and a process for the preparation of compounds represented by general formula (II) (wherein R<4> is an amino-protecting group; and R<2> is as defined above) by the use of the derivatives of general formula (I). The compounds of general formula (II) useful as intermediates for drugs can be prepared industrially and efficiently through novel intermediates represented by general formula (I).
