<p>A method of treating a vascular defect includes navigating the distal end (26) of a catheter (22) having a lumen (54) therein with a magnetic embolic material in the lumen (54); ejecting the magnetic embolic material from the lumen (54) of the catheter (22), and guiding with an externally applied magnetic field to form an embolus that occludes the vascular defect; and withdrawing the distal end (26) of the catheter (22).
