The die head (10) swivels on the extruder(22) and has a cutout (37) facing the extruder screw(24) into which flow channel inserts(38) are inserted to form a die ring(45) before the thickness adjustment slides(12) and/or flank templates(14). An Independent claim is made for an extruder with the claimed die head(10). Preferred Features: The flow channel inserts(38), which may be in one or several parts, surround the screw(24) on the input side of the die head and the screw flight ends at the transition between extruder and inserts. Different flow channel inserts form a range of die head cross-sections for various types of tread strip. The die head(10) is in two parts with a front part connected by a vertical hinge to a rear part to allow swiveling and release of the flank templates. A primary joint between the extruder(22) and die head comprises a main joint and two secondary joints.
