The pedal container lid has an operating lever, especially a pedal operated opening mechanism cooperating with a damping element in the form of a pressure-bellows damping the lid-flap's (7) closure movement against the rim (51). The pressure bellows is an ovoid hollow body made of rubber or rubbery plastic easily replaced. The opening mechanism has a swivel pedal near the ground and connected with a longitudinally movable pushing element (17) near the rear wall (9). The pusher element has a stop-tab (41) engaging with the damping element.
