CALLER IDENTITY DISPLAY UNIT

A caller identity display unit for connection to a telephone line on which caller identity request signals are transmitted to the telephone network from a subscriber and caller identity signals are transmitted from the telephone network to the subscriber. Call waiting signals transmitted on the line to indicate that an attempt to call a subscriber is being made when the line is busy are detected, and a shunt circuit is connected to the line for a period of time in response to detection of the call waiting signal. The shunt circuit reduces the line voltage to a level sufficiently low to mute the subscriber's equipment.
