The hand luggage stowage compartment (1), in an aircraft cabin, is located between the passenger seats (18) and a side wall (2) of the cabin (9) near the floor (4). The luggage compartment is formed by four side walls (11-14) to give a cube-shaped hollow body (3) along the longitudinal line of the fuselage and parallel to the cabin side wall. A suction channel (5) is incorporated near the floor. Its outlet cross section (6) is defined by facing panels (7) and by an upper covering plate (8) to the cabin, together with a wall towards the fuselage wall (2) which has filter units (10) and a decompression flap (15) at the floor.
