The circuit includes a rectifier bridge (BR) which supplies a load (L) with a smoothing capacitor (C) and diode (D) through primary and secondary windings (W4,W2). The primary winding (W4) is tapped and the tapping receives supply through a diode (D4) from one terminal (X) of the rectifier. A series circuit comprising a diode (D3), an impedance (Z) and a capacitor (C2) is connected to the rectifier, and the capacitor/impedance junction (15) supplies an outer terminal (12) of the primary winding (W4) through another diode (D5). The primary winding circuit is completed by a switch (S1) which connects one rectifier terminal (Y) to an outer primary winding terminal.
