Two sections of polymer pipe are joined by the insertion of one of the pipes into the other. The smaller pipe (6) bears a collar (5) limiting the travel of the larger pipe (1). The overlap zone of the larger pipe has a surrounding metal bush (7) made of nickel, titanium or copper. The overlapping zone of the inner pipe bears a thread (4) or ribs which interlock with matching recesses in the inner face of the outer pipe.
