To reset power requirements accurately corresponding to a driver's handicap with simple measures at low temperatures, currently achievable throttle valve adjustment is detected for a current gas pedal position and a corresponding air mass flow rate assigned to it. The quotient of air mass flow rates for an ideal situation and for the current throttle valve adjustment is used as a unit of measurement for adjusting a vehicle component that affects drive moment.
