A 1,2-diphenylethylene/styrene copolymer (I) is prepared by polymerization of (A) 1,2-diphenylethene, (B) styrene and optionally (C) copolymerizable monomers whereby (A) and a polymerization initiator are mixed and component (B) and optionally (C) are continuously dosed into the reaction mixture. A 1,2-diphenylethylene/styrene copolymer (I) is prepared by polymerization of: (A) 1-63wt.% 1,2-diphenylethene, optionally substituted by up to 5 1-12C alkyl groups on the aromatic rings; (B) 37-99 wt.% styrene, optionally substituted by up to 5 1-12C alkyl groups on the aromatic ring; and (C) 0-50 wt.% copolymerizable monomers. whereby (A) and a polymerization initiator are mixed and component (B) and optionally (C) are continuously dosed into the reaction mixture.
