A device for displaying a picture represented as a raster of picture elements on a screen by using an illuminated mirror element matrix (2) lying decentrally from an optical axis (8) of the projection optics (6), the latter being divided into two stages (10 and 12), between which is positioned an arrangement (14) for displaying the image from a decentralized position in the input, into a central position at the output of the projection optics (6). The arrangement (14) is at its simplest as a purely geometric arrangement replacing the mirrors (four) and lenses of an alternative layout and giving an intermediate image (18) approximately the size of the mirror element matrix (2).
