Compounds represented by formula (I):as well as pharmaceutically acceptable salts, esters and hydrates thereof are disclosed along with pharmaceutical compositions and methods of treatment. The compounds are useful as inhibitor s of caspase-3, which is implicated in modulating apoptosis.
