A backpack system

A backpack system (1) comprises a backpack satchel (2) and a frontpack satchel (3) which are releasably connected together by a pair of shoulder straps (4) which secure the backpack system (2) on an individual. The shoulder straps (4) are secured to the backpack satchel (2) at upper locations (5) and lower locations (6) each shoulder strap (4) carries four connectors (11) for engaging corresponding connectors (9)(two not shown) on the frontpack satchel (3) for releasably securing the frontpack (3)to the shoulder straps (4). Widened portions (20) of the shoulder straps (4) distribute the weight of the front and backpack satchels (2,3) over a relatively wide area of the shoulders of an individual.
