PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a releasable package in an automatic winder in which winding and traversing are carried out by respective drive sources. SOLUTION: An automatic winder drives a package drive drum 6 and the a feather traverse device 10 by means of respective drive sources 8, 15. With this arrangement, a second traverse device 17 is used only when the operations of the package drive drum 6 and the feather traverse device 10 are started up. Upon splice of yarns, replacement of yarn feed bobbins or the like, the second traverse device 17 carries out traversing if the synchronization cannot be taken between the package drive drum 6 and the feather traverse device 10, instead of the feather traverse device 10, and accordingly, the winding can be made with no disturbance during traversing. Thereby it is possible to enhance the release ability of the package 3.
