PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the depth of the outer box of a washer with a motor for directly driving/rotating a rotary tub on the back of a water tub, maintaining a depth deep enough for preventing the motor from hitting against the outer box. SOLUTION: This washer has a recess 21 on the back of a water tub 16, and at least a part of a motor 33 for directly driving/rotating a rotary tub 24 is located inside the recess 21. Therefore, the motor 33 can be located front, by which the depth H of the outer box 11 can be reduced, maintaining the sizes E, F for preventing the motor 33 from hitting against the outer box 11.
