PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shield machine capable of excavating even a small- diametral tunnel and even a large-diametral tunnel only by, slight remodeling, to simplify the structure of the shield machine, to reduce manufacturing cost and remodeling cost, and to simply change over a tunnel diameter. SOLUTION: A drum member 3 has an internal rear-drum tail plate 6, an external rear-drum tail plate 5 externally fitted to the tail plate 6 concentrically at a space and a front drum 4, the shield machine is propelled under the state, in which front drum 4, the tail plate 5 and the tail plate 6 are mounted, and a segment 30 for a small-diametral tunnel is assembled on the internal surface side of the tail plate 6 under the state, in which the small-diametral tunnel is excavated, and the shield machine is propelled under the state, in which the tail plate 6 is removed, and a segment for a large-diametral tunnel is assembled on the internal surface side of the tail plate 5 under the state, in which the large-diametral tunnel is excavated.
