PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printing control method and apparatus capable of preventing the blank around a character generated when a character and an overlay are overlapped with each other or there is a character within the overlay spooled to the front. SOLUTION: When an overlay is spooled to the rear, the darawing command of each printing page of the overlay is spooled prior to the drawing command of each page of a printing document (S3, S4). When there is a character drawing command in the drawing command of the printing document and the character drawing command is set so that the periphery of the character is painted out white, the setting of the character drawing command is altered to the setting not painting out the periphery of a character white to be spooled (S10-S12) as the drawing command of each printing page.
