PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet recorder having a carriage locking mechanism capable of preventing releasing of the locked condition that may occur because of the impact received by this recorder. SOLUTION: A sliding member 21 having a wiping member 11 provided on a home position is moved in the horizontal direction by a driving pin 24 that slides in a groove 23 provided on the sliding member 21. A lock pin 22 provided at the upper section of the sliding member 21 is abutted to an engagement member 11b provided on a carriage 1, then the carriage goes into a locked condition. Bent sections 34, 35 are formed in the groove 23 such that the driving pin 24 is positioned therein under the locked condition and is engaged therewith when the sliding member 21 receives the moving action by virtue of an external force.
