PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve stabilization, miniaturization, weight reduction, speedup and cost reduction in an image recording apparatus using a cut sheet of a regular shape. SOLUTION: An image recording apparatus has a feed roller 3 for supplying or discharging a sheet S with respect to a recording means for recording an image on the sheet S, a carriage driving belt 32 for reciprocally moving a carriage 23 loaded with the recording means in a main scanning direction and a sub-scanning roller 12 feeding the sheet S in a sub-scanning direction in synchronous relation to the movement of the carriage 23, the feed roller 3, the carriage driving belt 32 and the sub-scanning froller 12 are driven by a single drive source, and in the roller 3, the belt 32 and the roller 12 change over from feed driving at the time of discharge to pitch feed driving at the time of recording is carried out by changing over the rotary direction of the drive source.
