PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a potassium titanate fine particle having no shape and dimension of inhalant fiber and excellent in shape characteristic. SOLUTION: A mixture of a K source such as K2CO3 with a Ti source such as TiO2 is fired to produce a fine particle having <5μm length, made slurry by adding water and converted to an objective composition by adding an acid to elute excess K. The converted material is heat treated after being dehydrated to obtain the potassium titanate having the composition of K2O.nTiO2 (n=1-8) and having <5μm length. The small quantity of the K source, unreacted TiO2 or TiO2 produced by the thermal decomposition of the potassium titanate can be coexisted. The number of fine particle having the rate length/width of <3 is existed 70-100% and the specific surface area is preferably 20-50 m2/g. The potassium titanate fine particle has excellent dispersibility and reactivity because of having the large specific surface area and is blended to plastics or the like to give the characteristics against friction and wear and is suitable for the manufacture of sliding parts such as a brake material. |
