PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a start controller for an engine for a motor vehicle capable of reducing impossibility of start due to dead battery and achieving secure engine start while improving fuel consumption greatly. SOLUTION: This start controller for an engine for a motor vehicle is provided with a start machine selection means 71 selecting at least either of an alternate current rotation electric motor 1 capable of starting the engine by receiving the supply of power converted from direct current to alternate current by an inverter 3 connected with a high voltage battery 5 and a direct current electric motor 2 capable of starting the engine by receiving the supply of power from a low voltage battery 6 based on the condition of at least either of the batteries 5, 6 and the engine when it receives an engine start command signal.
