PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic closing or opening device for an automatic door whose driving source can be miniaturized and running cost can be reduced without increase of the opening/closing load of the door in a usual use condition. SOLUTION: An extensible rod 1 having an extensible distance longer than the opening/closing distance of a door 6 and extending and contracting by means of a spring installed in the inside and an electromagnet 2 counterposed to the extensible rod 1 are installed in the transom 5 of an automatic door A. A magnetic plate 3 is fixed to the tip of the extensible rod 1, and an engaging plate 4 to which the magnetic plate 3 is attachably and detachablly fitted is fixed to the upper end of the door 6. The magnetic plate 3 is attracted to the electromagnet 2 in the elongated condition of the extensible rod 1 and the magnetic plate 3 is engaged with the engaging plate 4 by contracting the rod 1 when the electromagnet 2 is in the non-exiting state and the door 6 is moved to the closing or opening direction.
