PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a carbonic diester useful as a raw material for medicines, agrochemicals or the like, an additive for gasoline, and a raw material for carbonates by reacting an organic hydroxy compound with carbon monoxide and oxygen in the presence of a catalytic solution containing a copper halide, a cyclic nitrogen compound and a specific glycol ether. SOLUTION: An organic hydroxy compound is reacted with carbon monoxide and oxygen in the presence of a catalytic solution consisting essentially of a homogeneous solution containing (A) a copper halide, (B) a cyclic nitrogen compound and (C) a glycol ether of the formula (R1 is an alkyl or an aryl; R2 is methyl, ethyl or the like; R3 is an alkyl, H or the like; and (n) is 1-12), and including the component A in a solubilized state, while feeding a halogen or a halogen-donor (preferably a hydrogen halide or the like) thereto to provide the objective compound. The reaction is preferably carried out by taking out a part of a reaction liquid from the reaction system, subjecting the whole or a part of the taken out reaction liquid to a contact treatment with carbon monoxide, and returning the treated reaction liquid to the reaction system. |
